Greenwood Scores Hat-Trick as Manchester United Beat Marseille in Europa League Match

Manchester United have won their first Europa League game, defeating Marseille 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The victory was a significant boost for the Red Devils, who had been struggling with injuries and form throughout the season.

United's win came after they had already secured their place in the Europa League group stage by beating Dinamo Zagreb 4-0 on Tuesday night.

With just four games left to play in the competition, Manchester United have a chance to secure a spot in the knockout stages.

"It's always tough coming into a competition like this, but we've shown that we can be dangerous," said Manchester United captain Nemanja Matic.

"We'll see how we do against the best teams in Europe next week."

Marseille were without key players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Antoine Griezmann, so it was no surprise that they struggled to find any rhythm in the opening half-hour.

But Greenwood, a player who has been playing regularly for Manchester United, stepped up his game and scored the second goal in the 65th minute.

"I knew I could score when I saw the ball going past the post," Greenwood told BBC Sport.

"I wanted to give it my all and try to help us win the game."

United went on to score another goal in the second half, with Greenwood scoring again from a free-kick following a header from Anthony Martial.

"Both goals were really important for us," said Greenwood.

"It gives you confidence and helps your team move forward.

"We need to keep pushing forward and try to get more results."
